The SCTA at the Los Angeles roadster show.

The 45th annual LA roadster show at the Pomona fairgrounds for the Fathers day weekend has become one of the largest hot rod and specialty car events on the west coast. Over the two day show thousands of people attend the show, swap meet and vendor areas.

The Pomona fairplex is a huge facility with the legendary Pomona drag strip that hosts, among other events, the winternationals and NHRA season finals. It is home to the Wally Parks NHRA museum.

The LA roadster club was founded in 1957 and from a small group of hot rodders, their yearly get together has evolved into a weekend event with major sponsors and charity fund raising schedules. The SCTA has always been invited to the event because the birth of hot rodding and our organization have common roots. This event not only raises funds for the SCTA thru merchandise sales but also publicizes our form of motor sport to the general public.

This year the SCTA display consisted of the merchandise trailer, four race cars and three race bikes. All the vehicles were chosen at the June El Mirage meet by Pat Riley of the Road Runners club. Pat selected the vehicles he felt showed a good representation of the racing that we do. He can also be seen campaigning his XOVGE 1938 Chevy business competition coupe at the racing events and is also a member of the SCTA vintage car committee. He deserves many thanks for organizing the display and all his hours of hard work.

The vehicles that were in this years show were a 1998 Camaro competition coupe owned by Bill Harris of the Road Runners. A 1928 Street Roadster owned by Bert Griffin. A 1929 fuel roadster owned by Don Ferguson of the Rod Riders. A 1947 hudson diesel pickup owned by The Michael Ryan Pattison Foundation. Two turbo hayabusa suzuki motorcycles owned by Connie Beavers and Nick Nicolaides of the Gear Grinders. And a special construction 2000cc blown Harley Davidson owned by Eric Ross of the Gear Grinders.

The SCTA display was very well recieved by the show organizers and the general public. Merchandise sales were said to be good. About on par with a 2 day event at El Mirage.

Other volunteers for the weekend were Dalia Riley, Paula Banks and Diana Dunning. All working in the SCTA merchandise trailer.
